Known for their virtuosic programmes and exquisite musical interpretation the Cann Twins’ international duo-piano career has taken them to Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, the Middle East and Japan. Favourite venues in this country include Nottingham Royal Concert Hall, Fairfield Halls and St David’s Hall Cardiff. In addition to their recital work they have also performed two-piano concerti with many orchestras, including the RPO, LPO, BBC Concert Orchestra, Wren Orchestra, RLPO and London Mozart Players at the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican and in the International Series at the Royal Festival Hall. Claire and Antoinette gave the South Bank Premiere of the Bruch Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall and the world premiere of the Blinko Concerto with the English Sinfonia.
The British identical twins studied with Jean Merlow and Robert Pell at the Watford School of Music before entering the Royal College of Music, London to study piano with the legendary duo-pianist Phyllis Sellick. As postgraduates they were awarded the RCM’s most prestigious prize, The President`s Rosebowl and by invitation of H.M. the Queen Mother they performed at the Royal Lodge, Windsor for H.M. Queen Elizabeth.
Whilst at the RCM, they were inspired by Dr Gerald Gifford to transcribe orchestral scores for duo-piano and their recordings of these have won top awards, including Classic FM"Critic’s Choice", Gramophone"Critic’s Choice", HMV"Best 49 CDs". “La Danse” which features their first arrangement, “The Nutcracker Suite” was a rosette winner in the "Penguin Guide to Compact Discs".
In addition to specialising in the French and Romantic repertoire the twins are also known for their premieres of contemporary works. They have had long associations with three particular composers, Timothy Blinko, Michael Elliott and Terry Winter Owens who have written many wonderful works for them.
Inspiring the next generation of pianists is a cause close to the twins’ hearts and has led them to write their own series of concert duets ranging from novice to diploma standard which are available on their website. In addition they have given duo-piano masterclasses in New Zealand, America and Europe and also at the Royal College of Music, London, Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, Stetson University, Florida, and Loyola University, New Orleans, U.S.A. as Visiting Professors. Claire and Antoinette have appeared on television in the UK, Japan, USA and New Zealand and have broadcast on radio in Canada, Denmark, Germany, Israel and New Zealand. They also broadcast frequently on Classic FM and BBC Radio 3.
