Stapleford Granary

Event description

With Dr Roland Randall and Simon Fraser from Hot Numbers Coffee.

Come and drink coffee and gather around the coffee roasting machine at Stapleford Granary for an evening lecture with Dr Roland Randall and Simon Fraser as they inform us about this extraordinary bean.

For coffee plants caffeine is a biochemical weapon, protecting them from disease and insect damage, whereas for us it is a stimulant, a muscle relaxant and a diuretic!

Coffee as a drink, was first produced in Ethiopia and Yemen in the 9th Century and spread throughout the Islamic and then the Christian world. Today, over 8 million metric tons of coffee beans are produced each year.

This lecture will look at the history, distribution and ecology of coffee and will be followed by a roasting session and tasting of various coffees grown in different regions of the world.
