Following Lucy Stevens sell out success of 'Kathleen Ferrier Whattalife!' at Stapleford Granary in April. we are delighted to be presenting her brand new show 'Shakespeare In Song'. Developed specially for this year's 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, 'Shakespeare In Song' will take the audience on a journey through four centuries of the bard's songs, inter-woven with poetry from his plays and sonnets. 18 Songs by 14 Composers from 10 Plays by 1 Playwright.
Shakespeare's plays and poetry have inspired the finest composer's of songs. Traditional Elizabethan settings will be performed alongside timeless arrangements by Arne, Purcell, Quilter, Finzi, Schubert and Haydn, female composers Dring and Maconchy, together with contemporary settings by Korngold, Horovitz and Tippett. Accompanied by Musical Director, Elizabeth Marcus.
With a voice of this calibre, it would be easy for a singer to indulge, but Whattalife! is a seamless balance of speech and music, neither dominating the piece.'
