Event description

A silent movie night with Neil Brand.

19.30 | £15/£8 under 16

“Assisted by the thrilling wit and polish of Brand’s lightning-fingered accompaniment, the sheer finesse of each successive slapstick selection works its magic on the audience and the laughter flows more and more freely.” The Telegraph

After receiving critical acclaim for his appearances on BBC4’s Sound of Cinema and Sound of Song as well as Radio 4’s Film Programme, we are proud to present Neil Brand, the “doyen of silent film pianists”, playing his own critically acclaimed show on the ACE Foundation’s new Model B Steinway piano.

The Silent Pianist Speaks is one of the most memorable shows you will see. It has left both audiences and critics in far from silent awe of the great filmmakers of the Silent Era and the magic of the accompanists who breathed life and sound into their work.

Neil uses clips from some of the greatest moments in silent cinema to illustrate the special place of music within silent film. He has been accompanying silent films for nearly 30 years, regularly in London at the Barbican and the National Film Theatre, throughout the UK and at film festivals around the world.
