Contemporary calligraphy can be a very expressive art form.

This workshop is suitable for all levels, from beginner to advanced, and will introduce a basic edged-pen script for beginners, letterforms, spacing, and the layout of a short text. For more experienced calligraphers it will be possible to learn, improve or experiment with variations of a script. Much of the tuition is on an individual basis, with frequent group demonstrations. 

Participants will need to bring their own materials

Please bring what you can of the following:
DRAWING BOARD or calligraphy desk easel, ( or piece of MDF or plywood or even a flat=backed large rectangular tray, all approx. 18" x 14" ) We have some basic boards available to borrow. 
A3 Goldline or Daler Rowney lay - out pad
A3 Winsor & Newton SMOOTH cartridge pad drawing and sketching paper 60,70 or 100 lbs ( 60 or 70 easier to write on for beginners)
Bottle black calligraphy ink eg Pelikan 4001, or Sumi 'manga' drawing ink ( both from )
Rexel/Mitchell ( same thing) square cut roundhand nibs   size 2 for beginners ( more sizes for experienced calligraphers ) left obliique if you are left-handed.
penholder and 2 slippon reservoirs
Ruler, HB pencil, Pritt gluestick, scissors, jam jar, masking tape ( only if you have some already).tissues.

Artist biog

Gaynor Goffe is a well-known calligrapher and has taught many of today’s prominent calligraphers. Her main areas of work are commissions, teaching workshops, running calligraphy correspondence courses and producing calligraphy for exhibition and sale.
