“The Allegri play intensely, but also gracefully; they know when to give the music space” Sunday Times
We are delighted to host the world famous Allegri Quartet, Britain’s oldest chamber group at Stapleford Granary to perform seven of Beethoven’s quartets, with examples taken from each stage of his musical life. For many Beethoven’s cycle of string quartets is the greatest ever completed in this genre, and illustrates the development, breadth and depth of the composer’s output.
Rafael Todes, violinist with the Allegri, describes the cycle as “like seeing the stature of a young man, an angry man and an old man looking back on his life with poignancy and wisdom”.
