Sublime and stimulating Jazz’  Buckland Festival

Ruth Applin – Piano/Vocals

Josh Kemp – Tenor Saxophone

Tom Mark – Double Bass

Les Cirkel - Drums

A stylish and elegant Singer-Pianist, Ruth Applin presents a programme of classic jazz, blues and bossa nova, in the style of Nat King Cole, Nina Simone and Diana Krall. The concert will feature material drawn from the Great American Songbook, and singers such as Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Playing with a sophistication that never fails to delight audiences, Ruth’s rich vocals and swinging piano playing evoke the sound of a golden era of jazz.

For this concert, Ruth will be joined by her quartet including acclaimed saxophonist Josh Kemp - ‘Wonderfully rich toned…a nuanced and original sound,’ (Time Out), together with the swinging rhythm section of guitarist Louis Thorne, Tom Mark on double bass and Les Cirkel on drums. Ruth and her band are guaranteed to provide a vibrant programme of swinging music. Based in London, Ruth has performed in venues around the UK and beyond, from jazz clubs and festivals to a residency at the Ritz hotel.
