 Songs From The Troubadour

'The UK’s answer to Diana Krall and Norah Jones' Time Out

'Definitely worth seeking this one out'  Sir Michael Parkinson, BBC Radio 2

“Songs from the Troubadour”, music and musings on the singer/songwriter era, has been put together by Joanna Eden, Dave and Lynne Olney. It celebrates their love of the music of the singer-songwriter era from artists like James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, The Beatles and Elton John.

In the seventies and eighties, an otherwise monochrome music scene was given colour by artists who combined thoughtful lyrics with crafted melodies. They achieved great critical acclaim in their day and their songs have become timeless, as fresh today as they were back then.

Likened by some to Joni Mitchell, Joanna Eden has a voice, which can soar and swoop, reminiscent of an early Joni Mitchell or Karen Carpenter.  Like her heroes Carole King and Christine McVie, she’s a pianist who likes to be in there at the heart of the sound. Naturally averse to pigeonholes, Joanna loves walking the tightrope between her love of jazz, pop and folk and has become well known as singer Sam Smith’s mentor and writing partner.

Dave Olney is a freelance musician, famous for his appearances on stage and screen. From X Factor to Strictly Come Dancing, from Parkinson to Dame Edna Everage, from Gilbert O’Sullivan to John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, he has modestly played with just about everyone in the industry and in many different genres of music. He is currently touring with Anton du Beke, Erin Boag and Lance Ellington from Strictly Come Dancing and can be heard daily, playing on the theme music to ‘The Archers’!

Lynne Olney first found fame with the world famous Nick Nick & the Nickettes (founded by Nick Barraclough!), subsequently Telephone Bill & The Smooth Operators, then as bass player/vocalist with popular gypsy jazz outfit The Usual Suspects.

Joanna Eden, whose songs are included in this concert, notes that her song writing owes much to her heroes “We combine my songs with those of my influences. Dave and Lynne are so seasoned in that style, it is such a pleasure to make music with them!"
